Most schools support Greek systems. These groups, known as fraternities and sororities, are ubiquitous throughout the country. However, The School views these groups as in opposition to the school's mission statement. We are allowed to have groups on campus but they may not be affiliated with national organizations.
Over the years The School has become less and less welcoming to these groups. I don't even know how to describe the feeling you get when your school tries to quiet its students and stifle their sense of community. If you are a member of one of these block housing groups you will be scrutinized, unfairly challenged, harassed, looked upon with disdain and disrespected.
Every year The School makes it more difficult to enjoy the benefits of the incredible bond that is shared by students within these groups. We are forced to come up with bogus evidence that reflects our "commitment to the school's mission statement." We are required to do random activities and community events under the school's jurisdiction. These programs need to be accomplished outside of any other charity and community events we may already hold. This is all done under a program who's name is deliberately fashioned to make these groups out to be insignificant and under The School's full control. They want there to be no mistake as to who is in charge.
